Guillermo del Toro – One More Attempt To Bring “At The Mountains Of Madness” To The Big Screen

I’m a little late finding this one, as this posting over at The Playlist first appeared back on January 7. It indicates that acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is going to try one last time to get a studio to take on his film adaptation of “At The Mountains Of Madness.”

Del Toro apparently shelved the idea after learning of Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus.” However, after having seen that film, his concern about too much similarity between the two stories seems to have dissipated, and he is going to push forward one last time.

As a huge fan of del Toro’s work, I cannot think of anyone whom I would rather interpret this classic Lovecraft story for the big screen. He is a master at creating atmospheres that are almost sentient, that behave almost as actual characters in his stories. “At The Mountains Of Madness,” with its bleak, madness-inducing Antarctic setting, begs for this treatment.

The only thing that makes me a little nervous is word that Tom Cruise is on board for this should it get picked up…
